Gellert Bath

Gellert Bath is the most famous Art Nouveau thermal baths in Budapest, Hungary as well as in Europe. Gellert Spa, founded in 1918. Visiting the bath is indeed a beautiful and historical experience. You can visit the main hall free of charge, or spend a whole day of relaxation in the “Palace of Baths” as Gellert Bath is often referred to.

While Gellert Spa Bath is being renovated until 2028, the rest of the thermal baths in Budapest await you with multiple mineral rich geothermal pools and spa services. Thank you for considering a different bath for your visit in the meantime.

There are 10 pools of various sizes and temperatures. Gellert Bath is open every day from 9 am to 7 pm, even on bank holidays, like May 1, August 20 or Christmas. Besides the outdoor wave pool (now known as the outdoor leisure pool), which is a big hit in summer months, there are several geothermal pools open to both men and women. Besides, you can get massage treatments: Gellert Spa Massage, enjoy the saunas, the sunbathing terrace looking at the Gellert Hill, and relax by the geothermal pools with some beer, wine, champagne.

Wave Pool (no waves currently!): Unfortunately, the almost hundred year old innovative wave pool machine has been in need of maintenance since 2019. Due to its special historical value and the complex nature of the machinery built in the 1920s, there is no set date when the waves will start running again in the pool. Therefore the outdoor wave pool currently works as an open air pool (with no artificial waves generated), when the outdoor pool is in season (normally mid May to mid October, subject to weather in Budapest).

As Gellert Bath is one building with the spa hotel named Gellert Hotel, you can enjoy a fascinating holiday in one of the best spa hotels in Budapest, or simply enjoy the bath facilities as a bath visitor (Gellert Bath is open to all, adults, children, men, women, and all its areas are wheelchair accessible)

Fun: try the open-air leisure pool, and explore the labyrinth of the Art Nouveau palace revealing 8 artistic pools with naturally warm spring waters. Both Szechenyi Bath and Gellert Bath are a maze. We recommend getting your own Gellert Spa Map to aid your exploration.

  1. Hello, we are coming for the Easter weekend and we’re hoping to visit the baths on Tuesday 02/04 – might there be any tickets available? Thanks

  2. Does the price include bathrobe and towl?

  3. Hi, I’m planning to visit in December. could I bring my ten-year old daughter into the thermal pools? What areas can she use?

    • Hello Daniela,

      Thank you for your comment.
The hot water pools in Gellert Spa are not recommended for children under 14.
For a truly family friendly place we would recommend considering Csillaghegyi Bath, Palatinus Bath, Dagaly Bath or Paskal Bath. Further away from the city central districts, you can also visit Aqua World Budapest which offers a spa experience for adults and fun, children-friendly pools too.

We hope you have a great time in Budapest with your children!

    • Hello, I would like to know if the baths are accessible for children with 13 years old. If not, there are any other baths that accept children with this age?

      • Hello Enzo,

        Thank you for contacting us.

As a general rule, Children younger than 14 years old are not allowed in the hot thermal water pools, only in the cooler swimming pools in the Baths in Budapest.
Palatinus Bath & Lido is a great alternative: although it is mostly known as an open air lido in central Budapest, Palatinus on Margaret Island has been extended with indoor pools (adult thermal and kid pool), which makes the bath a great option all year round, even during the colder winter months.

Aqua World, which is a water theme park in Budapest, is another option. It is located north of the city, approx. 1 hour ride from the city centre. Ideal for younger and older teenagers (there is even a surf class for beginners), superb for grown ups.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Budapest!

  4. Hi
We have already booked for three of us to visit Gellert on Friday 1st December but did not book the massage. If we would like to book for two us us to have a massage how could we add this to our booking?
    Many thanks
    Mandy

  5. Hi I am visiting on the 23rd November. – will the outside pool be open?

    • Hello Janet,

      Thank you for your comment.

The outdoor pool has been under maintenance at the end of October and is currently back in use.
Please kindly note that the bath reserves the right to close down a thermal pool without further notification if maintenance is needed.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Budapest!
