Are the Baths open on Holidays?

The opening hours of the Baths of Budapest are not affected on public holidays in Hungary, all the main thermal baths will be open as on Sundays. That is, visiting the Thermal Bath of Budapest is possible, the baths, the pools will be open, massage treatments and other services will also be available (massages are usually booked up 1-2 weeks before the public holidays). What is more, the ticket prices of the Thermal Baths will be like on wekends, as on all public holidays in Hungary.

The Christmas opening hours are slightly different from the normal opening hours. But, most important of all, you can – highly likely – celebrate your Christmas in Budapest at one of the Baths in Budapest!

Christmas opening times can be vary at the different Baths.

Christmas Opening Hours in the Thermal Baths of Budapest

Christmas opening hours – planned dates and hours, but very likely arranged – at Szechenyi Spa Baths, and further Budapest baths will be as follows:

  • Dec 24: opening hours from 6am to 2pm (all the facilities in Szechenyi Baths). Check-in for online reservations: 9 am – 1 pm.  The rest of the major thermal baths in Budapest like Gellert Spa, Rudas Bath, etc. are usually open from 6am to 2pm. Kiraly Bath is closed on this day.

Note: the entry price on Dec 24 and Dec 25 requires weekend tickets as Dec 24 is already part of the holiday season in Hungary (even though it is generally a half day only).

  • Dec 25: opening hours from 10am to 6pm (all 3 outdoor pools, and most of the thermal section in Szechenyi Baths). Check-in for online reservations: 10 am – 5 pm. Also from 10am to 6pm on December 25 other Budapest baths are usually open: Lukacs Baths, Kiraly Baths, Gellert Bath.
  • Dec 26: opening hours from 6am to 10pm (all 3 outdoor pools and most of the thermal section in Szechenyi Baths). Check-in for online reservations: 9 am – 6 pm. Further thermal baths in Budapest will also be open on Dec 26: Rudas Bath, Lukacs Baths and Dagaly Baths are open from 6am to 8pm, Kiraly Baths from 9am to 8pm, Gellert Bath from 8am to 8pm.

  1. Hello, I would like to book two places for the 24th December at either of the spas. Is there still availability? Thank you!

    • Hello Emily,

Thank you for your inquiry about services between Dec 24, 2019, and Jan 07, 2020 in the baths. While we normally would recommend online bookings to secure your appointments or entries, during the Winter Festive Season (Christmas and New Year – Dec 24 – Jan 7) the city attracts half a million extra tourists, which makes online fast track tickets to Szechenyi Baths and Gellert Spa simply non-fast track, and ticket holders are often held back in the – otherwise peaceful and expectant – crowds gathering around the entrances. Hence the managerial decision was made that no fast track entries or cabins (changing cubicles) are sold during the festive days. Guests of day time visit will be checked in on a first-come-first-served basis. Unfortunately, we expect long queues due to the increased demand, even long lines in the cold.
