Hello!
I’m a big chess player and I would like to know in which baths can I still play chess with Hungarians (not with tourists)
Dear Antonio,
The gathering is informal and not at fixed times — we suggest going around 10 a.m. for the best chance to find local players.
Enjoy your time at the Bath!
can we book one cabin for two people?
Dear Charlotte,
Yes—you can absolutely share one cabin between the two of you by taking turns (suitable for one person at a time as the cabin is the size of a changing cubicle).
Please book one “Ticket with Cabin” and one standard “Ticket with Locker.” A locker is included by default with entry; the guest using the cabin can simply ignore their locker and you can both use the same cabin as your private changing room and storage. (Cabins fit one person at a time, so you’ll take turns.)
If you’d prefer, you can also book two “Ticket with Cabin” for a bit more convenience. Note that lockers are located in a different section of the bath, so couples usually find one shared cabin + one standard ticket the most practical and cost‑effective setup.
Is it possible to get a tour or see the baths without using the baths? We would like to see them while visiting but do not have time for a soak. Thanks.
Dear Dawn,
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, since Covid, the guided tours have been no longer available but you can visit the bath inside with a standard entry (the cheapest one is on a weekday with a locker).
Unfortunately, the guided tour is a third-party service, offered by an independent company. It cannot be booked directly.
Alternatively, you can download an affordable audio guide app that presents the City Park attractions, including the Szechenyi Bath. For a self guided audio tour in the main halls of the baths and its surroundings in the City Park, e.g. the Vajdahunyad Castle, the Ice Rink Palace, etc. we suggest taking a look at the following tour option: https://szechenyibath.com/guided-tour-szechenyi-baths-and-the-city-park-budapest/
Large Halls (City Park side and Circus side)
To make a short free visit, you can enter the two large entry halls (not the bathing area) free of charge. Some of the windows in the main hall and the cafeteria let the visitors have a quick peek at the 3 outdoor pools (there are 15 more pools inside, besides the saunas, steam rooms etc. which will not be visible though). The architecture of the building, the beautiful wall paintings are worth a visit as the thermal baths are set in the stunning City Park.
Footwear
To enter the main hall you can use street shoes. (If you buy a bath entry, you will need slippers or flip flops though and you will need to get changed to respect the other guests and avoid making them feeling embarrassed / exposed and / or objectified as part of the scenery)
Thank you for your understanding.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
