Rudas Bath is probably the most popular medieval Turkish bath in Budapest, the City of Baths, famous for its bathing palaces like the Neo-Baroque Szechenyi Bath or the Art Nouveau Gellert Bath.
What makes Rudas Bath stand out is the modern rooftop panorama pool overlooking the river Danube and its many Budapest river cruise boats, the Parliament, the historical bridges and more. Also, Rudas Bath boasts a 16th-century thermal bath in its core, called the Turkish Bath.
In addition, Rudas Spa offers a special late night bathing opportunity, with its special overnight opening hours every Friday and Saturday (the baths reopen from 10 pm to 3 am, both nights: Rudas Night Bathing is only available with tickets booked online). Finally, Rudas is the only thermal bath in Budapest, which has – at least in a smaller part of the thermal complex – men only and women only weekdays in certain hours, when aprons are worn by many guests instead of traditional swimwear. You can book your Rudas Bath entries with a nice dinner right in the Thermal Baths for a special extra.

Turkish Bath inside the Rudas Bath Complex
Turkish baths in Budapest are amazing oriental monuments with modern-day facilities. Many tourists who visited Turkey will expect to see the dry Turkish sauna as a Turkish bath, but the medieval Turkish baths of Budapest are not steam baths as in modern-day Turkey, but historical Turkish baths with a central octagonal-shaped pool extended with other baths.
That said, you can take a Turkish bath as a steam bath too, as Rudas Bath offers a complex bath and wellness experience, including a hammam (Turkish sauna) as well as an ilidza (Turkish “Ilica” for warm thermal spring). There are 6 thermal baths in Rudas Bath as well as a larger swimming pool.
The knights of St John in the 13th century built their healing center here, then after the Buda Castle siege, when the Ottoman Turkish armies successfully captured the Royal Palace of Hungarians, the Turks started to build a series of Turkish baths along the river Danube, using the deep underground hot spring waters for relaxing, bathing and healing. Sokollu Mehmed Pasha (Sokoli Mustafa), the Turkish pasha, who excelled in the siege of Vienna, and governed the town of Buda for 12 years during the Turkish occupation in Hungary, made sure that the baths are well built (with hard ceramic pipes, and tiles brought from Turkey).

Hi, do i need to bring a swimming hat? Also, what is the largest size swimming togs for women you provide?
Dear Dawn,
Thank you for your comment.
A swimming cap is needed for swimming pools, you can buy these on the spot, or bring your own. Swimming costumes are available to rent or buy in the Spa, the smallest size is XS/S.
Have a great day.
Hello,
Is the Turkish Bath in Rudas men only on 6th January 2020? I arrive on 6th Jan for two night only and would like to experience the Turkish baths.
Thank you in advance
Henrietta
Dear Henrietta,
Thank you for your comment.
Yes, 6th Jan will be only for men. Men only days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and on Friday until 12.45 pm.
Women only day is Tuesday, so you can enjoy the Rudas Spa on that day. Other great choices (coed): Szechenyi and Gellert Spa.
Should you have further questions, please contact us.
Have a great day.
Does that mean after 12:45pm on Monday 6th, it becomes mixed? I could come after 5pm on a Monday and it’s mixed?
Thank you
Henrietta
Dear Henrietta,
Mondays are men-only days for the whole day. Women can visit the spa on Friday after 12.45 pm, on Tuesdays or on weekends when it is co-ed.
Have a great day.
I noticed a comment from Rudas staff saying that during 24th of December to 7th of January there will be no sales of online fast track tickets. However, the booking calendar states availability for the 28th and the 29th. So what does it mean if I book for the 29th, do I still have to queue? Why is there availability in the calendar then?
Dear Vilma,
Thank you for your comment. The official Spa is selling tickets online, the dates on our website are blocked out. Tickets can be bought on the spot during the festival season, between Dec 24, 2019, and Jan 7, 2020, in the baths.
Due to the high number of visitors during the festive winter days, the thermal baths’ managerial decision was made that no fast track entries or cabins (changing cubicles) are sold during these days, with the notable exception of the pre-NYE night party tickets, which will be bookable for December 30 as usual (in Szechenyi Baths http://szechenyispabaths.com/szechenyi-baths-new-year-bath-party/).
Guests of day time visit will be checked in on a first-come-first-served basis. As long queues are expected there may be some lines waiting in the cold. Please find more details, advice and other thermal bath alternatives on the following link: BathsBudapest.com/Dec
Thank you for your kind cooperation. Enjoy the thermal baths in winter Budapest and explore some more if it is not your first visit in the city.
